Social services are organizations that assist people in need. There are many different types of services that they perform and can range from helping domestic violence victims to financially in need people.
They help to improve the quality of life and well being of an individual, group, or community by intervening through research, policy, crisis intervention, community organizing, direct practice, and teaching on behalf of those afflicted with poverty or any real or perceived social injustices and violations of their civil liberties and human rights. |
Social workers typically do the following:

Social workers help people cope with challenges in every stage of their lives. They help with a wide range of situations, such as adopting a child or being diagnosed with a terminal illness.
As of 2008, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated 1,861,750 employed in the Community and Social Services occupational group earning the mean annual income of $41,790.
